Dr. Harold Haslam, who inspired Singing City’s founding in 1948, said choral singing is “a living model of democracy—a place where every voice matters.” For over 75 years, that vision has guided us. Singing City has always been more than a choir—it’s a vocal movement for connection, courage, and community.


Singing City continues to bring people together through the shared act of music-making. Every concert, rehearsal, and outreach performance embodies our belief that harmony—both musical and human—is something we create together.

  • Provide scholarships and transportation for young singers
  • Present performances that celebrate Philadelphia’s rich diversity
  • Perform new works that amplify underrepresented voices
  • Offer community programs that unite audiences of all ages and backgrounds
