Kimberly Haas

Kimberly has had a long career in journalism, much of it focused on music. She began as Music Director of WXPN-FM, leading an eclectic radio service of jazz, progressive, classical and folk music. She subsequently produced music programs heard nationally on public radio, including the documentary series Totally Wired and the daily contemporary music program Echoes.

Upon her return to Philadelphia a decade ago, Haas joined WHYY-FM, producing the station’s daily regional news program NewsWorks Tonight, while still reporting her own stories, with a focus on both music and environmental issues. In 2019, she added print coverage to her journalistic output, as a staff writer for Hidden City Philadelphia.

Kimberly Haas earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania, and was an M.F.A. candidate in Temple University’s radio-television-film program. Outside of work, she’s a sacred harp singer with the Philadelphia region’s very active shape note community.
